The Mayor of London is responsible for managing a total budget of £20.7 billion[1], but with a continuously changing financial landscape, what should be his priorities within his 2024/25 budget?

The Mayor’s budget is spread across the Greater London Authority (GLA) and its functional bodies, including Transport for London (TfL) and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).

The London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee will meet on Monday to hear from a panel of outside experts on the effectiveness of the Mayor’s current budget priorities, and also to discuss and anticipate future financial trends and challenges ahead of next year’s budget.

The meeting will also look to identify new benchmarking tools for performance tracking to evaluate the GLA’s budget and performance.

The guests are:

  • Alfie Stirling, Chief Economist and Associate Director for Analysis and Insight, Joseph Rowntree Foundation
  • Antonia Jennings, Chief Executive, Centre for London
  • Professor Tony Travers, Visiting Professor, London School of Economics (LSE) Department of Government and Director of LSE London
  • Tom Pope, Deputy Chief Economist, Institute for Government
  • Professor Jagjit S. Chadha, Director, National Institute for Economic and Social Research
  • Stuart Hoggan, Associate Consultant, LG Futures

The meeting will take place on Monday 30 October 2023 from 2pm, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
