Retrofit vs Rebuild?

In London, buildings account for an estimated 68 per cent of London’s carbon emissions. If London is to meet the Mayor’s target to be net zero carbon by 2030, there is an urgent need to reduce emissions from buildings in London.

The Planning and Regeneration Committee will be publishing its report – ‘Retrofit vs Rebuild?’ – outlining six recommendations to the Mayor and Government to reduce carbon in London’s built environment.

Is London too reliant on food imports?

Environment Committee, The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 2pm

Around 99 per cent of the 6,347,000 tonnes of food and beverages that supply London are imported from outside the city, with local production and farming accounting for less than one per cent of the capital’s food supply.

Increasing food production in and around cities is a potential way to reduce ‘food miles’ – the distance the food has travelled - and ensure local supply in case of global challenges.

The Environment Committee will meet to look at the resilience of London’s food systems, how sustainable the food chain system is, and to investigate potential opportunities for growth within the sector and to connect local communities with food growing.

  • Nick von Westenholtz, Director of Trade and Business Strategy, National Farmers Union
  • Sheila Dillon, Food journalist
  • Sarah Williams, Programmes Director, Sustain
  • Claire Pritchard, Chair, London Food Board
  • Mark Ainsbury, Food Policy Manager, GLA
  • Brian Kelly, Director, OrganicLea
