Q&A with Transport for London Commissioner

Transport Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

Each year the Transport Committee hosts a question-and-answer session with the Transport for London (TfL) Commissioner and the Deputy Mayor for Transport.

The Mayor announced in March 2022 that the ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) would be expanded London-wide. This expansion came into effect August 2023.

The Transport Committee will meet to question the TfL Commissioner and the Deputy Mayor on TfL’s approach to fares, the impact of the ULEZ expansion, and other areas of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.

The Mayor’s final 2024/25 budget

Budget and Performance Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 3pm

The Mayor’s Final Draft Consolidated Budget totals £20.7 billion. This final draft includes an additional £121 million added since the Draft Consolidated Budget published in January.

The Mayor is responsible for setting the budget for the Greater London Authority and its functional bodies, including TfL, the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime and Metropolitan Police Service (MOPAC/MPS) and the London Fire Commissioner (LFC).

The Budget and Performance Committee leads scrutiny of the Budget and will question the Mayor on his final Draft Consolidated 2024/25 Budget.

Q&A with Met Police Commissioner – responding to austerity  

Police and Crime Committee, The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

Baroness Casey’s damning review of culture and standards in the Metropolitan Police Service accused it of being institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic. 

In her review into the standards of behaviour and internal culture of the Met, Baroness Casey reported that the Met “has been challenged significantly during a period of financial austerity”.

The Police and Crime Committee will meet to quiz the Met Commissioner and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime on how the Met has responded to financial austerity since the Baroness Casey review.

Are enough homes being built on GLA land?

Housing Committee, The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 2pm

In 2021, the Mayor commissioned Lord Kerslake to carry out an independent review to streamline, improve and maximise housing delivery on land owned or controlled by the Greater London Authority (GLA) Group.

The Kerslake Review was published in 2022, setting out 15 recommendations. The Mayor accepted all the recommendations in full, and stated in November 2023 that the GLA Group had made “significant progress” against the recommendations.

The Housing Committee will meet to question senior officials on the progress made since the Kerslake Review, and how the GLA Group is delivering housing for Londoners.

London Assembly to vote on Mayor’s final Budget

The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

London Mayor Sadiq Khan will present his Final Draft Consolidated Budget for 2024-25 to the London Assembly for a final vote on the financial plans.

After questioning the Mayor, the London Assembly will consider his Final Draft Consolidated Budget and decide whether to approve it, with or without amendment.

Amendments are subject to securing a majority of two thirds of London Assembly Members present and voting. This is the final stage of a two-part budget process.
