The Independent Culture Review of the London Fire Brigade (LFB) by Nazir Afzal OBE found evidence that the fire service is institutionally misogynist, and that there are dangerous levels of ingrained prejudice against women.
What action is LFB taking to improve representation, career progression and facilities for women in the fire service? The Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee will meet to discuss this and what action has been taken to address the findings of the Independent Culture Review.

Can London meet its 2030 recycling target?

In 2018 the Mayor set a target for London’s households to recycle 50% of its rubbish by 2030. Current figures show London’s household recycling rate at 33%. What work is being doing to help meet the 2030 target?
The Environment Committee will meet as part of its investigation into waste and recycling in the capital, looking at whether London is on track to meet the Mayor’s targets, and what steps the Mayor can take to support an increase in recycling in London.

Tackling London's Temporary Accommodation crisis

A 2023 Shelter report describes that households living in Temporary Accommodation (TA) in London are more likely than in the rest of the country to experience problems with:
- Infestations (42% in London compared with 27% outside of London)
- Problems with heating (35% in London compared with 23% outside of London)
- Problems with access to running water (24% in London compared with 13% outside of London)
- Safety hazards (24% in London compared with 17% outside of London)
The Housing Committee will meet as part of its ongoing investigation into Temporary Accommodation in London. The Committee will be speaking with campaigners and grassroots organisations on the TA situation in London, before questioning housing industry professionals on the work they are doing to improve the situation for Londoners.
