Q&A on public protection

Police and Crime Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

Baroness Casey’s review of culture and standards in the Metropolitan Police Service found that public protection teams are overworked, overwhelmed, lack specialist services and are under-supported.

Her report highlighted that public protection teams deal with some of the “most serious crimes affecting the most vulnerable Londoners and committed by highly dangerous criminals”. These include rape and sexual assault, child abuse, online abuse, sexual exploitation and stalking.

The Police and Crime Committee will meet for its monthly Q&A session with the Met and Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime to discuss Baroness Casey’s findings related to the Met’s public protection teams and whether this has impacted victims coming forward.

Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime

  • Louisa Rolfe OBE, Assistant Commissioner for Frontline Policing, Metropolitan Police Service
  • Claire Waxman, Victims’ Commissioner for London
