Local Assembly Member calls for Superloop service in outer East London

Local London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai AM has called for the new Superloop network of buses to extend into outer East London during the London Assembly Transport Committee on 5 September 2023.

The new proposed SL2 route runs from Walthamstow to North Woolwich via Ilford and Barking town centres, but no route runs further east through Dagenham.

Assembly Member Desai supports the Superloop proposals but believes they do not adequately service outer East London in their current form.

Local London Assembly Member, Unmesh Desai AM, said:

“I’m pleased the Mayor has recognised the importance of additional bus services in outer London, and the Superloop program is an excellent initiative. However, further steps need to be taken so that it adequately serves communities across East London.

“In West London, the route SL8 runs as a ‘spur’ from Uxbridge into White City, and we want to see the same kind of service being extended to communities in Chadwell Heath, Dagenham, and beyond. These kinds of additional express services would transform connectivity in East London.

“I’ll continue to lobby the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor for Transport to investigate the feasibility of a service like this.”
