PMs announcement on London housebuilding is 'desperate distraction'
In response to Rishi Sunak’s announcement that he intends to ‘review’ the London Plan, London Assembly Labour’s Planning Spokesperson, Sakina Sheikh AM said:
“Today’s announcement from the Prime Minister seems like a desperate distraction from the government's own shortcomings.”
“The stats on housebuilding in London are quite clear with the number of affordable homes started in London increasing nearly every year since Sadiq became Mayor.”
“Housebuilding levels are at their highest since the 1930s, with the highest starts on council homes in London since the 1970s”
“Not only has Sadiq met the governments housing targets, he’s instructed Transport for London to build more homes on their land and changed the definition of affordable housing to be inclusive of low-income Londoners”
Attacking Sadiq’s London Plan looks nonsensical when the policies in it have resulted in more homes being built than his predecessor, and to a higher quality too.”
