Interim Assistant Director of Skills and Employment - Delivery

Biography

Prior to becoming the Assistant Director in July 2023, Ayo joined the GLA in 2019 to set up the Programme management office (PMO) for the Skills and Employment Unit. He built the team from two staff to 15 in the four years he led the team with a budget and performance oversight of a programme delivery portfolio of £480m revenue and £200m Capital budget.

Ayo is a qualified project and process management practitioner with over 22 years’ experience across numerous sectors, mostly delivering varieties of projects, setting up project, programme, portfolio and back office delivery office, helping teams document and improve business processes and managing change to ensure improved performance. He was trained in the financial sector in 2003 and worked in the bank for a total of 6 years before relocating in 2009. Before joining the GLA, Ayo worked in the NHS for five years in various roles including project/ performance management roles ending as a project/programme management consultant. 

Responsibilities

Together with the Assistant Director, Skills and Employment – Policy, I provide leadership and management for the whole of the Skills and Employment Unit of 160 staff, but with specific responsibility for the Delivery function.

This function supports the successful delivery of the delegated Adult Education Budget for Londoners and other associated programmes of work on behalf of the Mayor. I have direct responsibility for the following teams: AEB and Multiply; Academy, Bootcamps and Capital; European Programmes (EPMU) and Cross Region teams both overseeing the completion of the European Social Funds programme and the development the UK Shared Prosperity Fund Programme.
