Biography
Darren has been an elected member of the London Assembly since it was first established in May 2000. He is Chair of the London Assembly's Environment Committee and Deputy Chair of the Housing Committee and is a strong advocate of measures to protect tenants and make housing and rents more affordable in London. As Chair of the Assembly’s Environment Committee (2004-2009 and 2010-11), Darren led Assembly investigations into a range of topics including: flood risk in London, Heathrow expansion and the loss of London’s street trees.
Darren has been a consistent advocate of measures to reduce traffic, improve public transport and promote cycling and walking. As a member of the Fire Authority he has also been an outspoken opponent of fire station closures. Darren was also Chair of the London Assembly (2009-10 and 2013-14) and Deputy Chair (2008-9 and 2012-13).
In addition to his London Assembly role, Darren was also a Green councillor in Lewisham for twelve years (2002-14). He was born in 1966 and lives in Lewisham with his partner, Dean. He is a graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London.
