Fun community day for all the family

Tea dance cakes
Created on
23 June 2017

On Saturday 20 May, My Nadi centre on Old Oak Common Lane was full of laughter and dancing, as over 80 local residents came together for OPDC’s first community event which was, a “Tea Dance”.

Local community members were able to listen to a great live band, learn new dance moves with a professional dance company and eat scrumptious cake.

There were opportunities to take part in a photography project led by local resident Sara Henry. There were also stalls that provided information on: health and wellbeing, youth activities and employment and education opportunities.

Alongside the afternoon of live music, attendees also helped to raise over £100 for Bubble and Squeak, a social enterprise run by school children from Old Oak Primary School.

We received a large number of compliments on the day including being asked to hold a Tea Dance every month. Although this may not be possible, OPDC will certainly be holding more community events in the future. We hope to not only keep seeing familiar faces, but to carry on our engagement strategy to have even more local community members and businesses come along to our events.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended and volunteered, and made the event a success. As the local planning authority for the area, we are keen to support local residents and businesses through a range of events and give the community more opportunities to come together, build relationships and find out about the future plans for Old Oak and Park Royal.

Thank you

We would also like to thank Aurora Developments Limited, Fruition Properties, Genesis and QPR for sponsoring this event. As well as the volunteers from the following resident associations: Wells House Road, Midland Terrace and Island Triangle.

We would not have been able to hold such a successful day without the support and commitment of the following organisations:

  • Artification - promoted art pieces and activity in Acton
  • Brent Works - provided job, skills, and education and training opportunities
  • Brent Health Officers - provided free health checks and advice
  • Greenford, Northholt and Perivale (GNP) Community Forum - provided health information
  • Mad Hatters Cup Cake Decorating - provided cup cake decorating for young children
  • Revoseccuss - promoted their Youth Mentoring Services
  • Silver Star- Brent Diabetes Bus - provided information and free diabetes tests
  • Spectra, Ealing Health Service Providers - provided free health checks and advice.

Thank you all and see you next time!
