Request for traffic lights at Charterhouse Street junction

Key information

Petition presented by: Murad Qureshi

Date petition submitted: Wednesday 15 January 2014

Petition presented at: London Assembly Plenary

Summary of petition

“We residents and workers of London petition Transport for London and the City to install pedestrian traffic lights at the junction of Charterhouse Street and the A201 Farringdon Road / Farringdon Street. This junction lies on a major East - West pedestrian route. Pedestrians are crossing here at all times of day, but the lack of a pedestrian phase in the existing traffic lights means that the junction becomes dangerous for all road users.”

“Dear Murad

Re: Petitions received at the London Assembly (Plenary) Meeting on 15 January 2014

Thank you for the petition which you submitted to the London Assembly on 15 January calling for pedestrian signals to be installed at the junction of Farringdon Road with Charterhouse Street.

I am aware of the level of development in the area and the implications of the forthcoming new Crossrail station at Farringdon. I am pleased to say that, as part of my proposed north-south cycle superhighway route, this junction is currently being studied by my engineers who intend to provide signalled crossings as part of the design.”
