Programme: Outer London Fund

The Mayor’s Outer London Fund has given £472,000 from Round One and £1.8m from Round Two, matched by £1m from Harrow Council, to improve Harrow town centre.

The area has struggled to compete with several new shopping mall developments nearby. To help, Harrow town centre’s streets have been redesigned and the overall environment improved with new pavements and surfaces, benches, planting, signage and lighting.

The old recreation ground has been turned into a town centre park with outdoor children’s play areas, play structures and furniture. There’s also an orchard, new trees and special planting.

Other attractions include a new cultural venue in the form of a pavilion and landscaped amphitheatre. The pavilion, to be managed by nearby Harrow College, will also house a café. A new tree-lined ‘boulevard’ will define the route from Harrow-on-the-Hill station to the college.
