Programme: Outer London Fund

Bromley town centre has received £275,000 from Round One, and £2m from Round Two of the Mayor’s Outer London Fund. This has been matched by £1.5m from the borough and £1.5m from Transport for London. The aim is to maintain Bromley’s position as a great destination in south London. With more residential development in the town centre, we’ve been improving the high street to create a more attractive and inviting environment. The first phase of improvements was completed in 2014 on East Street. This has the area become a lively restaurant quarter.

Funding has also been used to improve public spaces around Market Square and Bromley Boulevard, redesigned by Studio Egret West. There are improved shop fronts, new paving, planters, better drainage, more outside seating areas, Legible London way-finding signs and interactive town maps. A series of bold signs designed by Pie Architecture mark the north and south entrances to the town centre. Much needed seating has also been installed at bus stops along the high street and at the town entrance. The area around the station is also being made more welcoming. Pedestrian routes have been upgraded across the whole town centre. As a result, walking has become a more pleasant experience and more people are choosing to shop there.
