Opinion research

The GLA Opinion Research team helps to inform the work of the Mayor and City Hall, by capturing the opinions, experiences and behaviours of Londoners and stakeholders. We do this through both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including opinion polling and focus groups.

Examples of our research 

Our research covers a range of topics and policy areas. Some examples include: 

• Polling to understand the experiences and impacts during the cost-of-living crisis and identify groups of Londoners most affected 

• Polling to track views and behaviours over the course of the pandemic, such as concerns about covid, social distancing, and vaccine uptake 

• Qualitative research to understand key factors affecting quality of life for Londoners to inform a Wellbeing and Sustainability Measure for London 

• Focus groups and polling to understand awareness of and attitudes towards retrofitting among renters and homeowners 

• An 8-week COVID-19 online diary to capture Londoners’ experiences during the start of the pandemic 

• Qualitative research and polling to explore how Londoners use their high streets and town centres, and what they want from them in the future 

• Evaluation to assess the #ChampionMentalHealth campaign and newsletter to measure how well it supports and promotes good mental health among Londoners.

We also deliver online public consultations through Talk London – City Hall’s online community. Talk London is a space where you can have your say on London's big issues and help shape City Hall’s plans and policies.
