Our code of corporate governance
Governance is about ensuring MOPAC is doing the right thing, in the right way, in a timely, inclusive, open and accountable manner. It comprises the systems, processes, culture and values by which MOPAC is directed and controlled and through which it accounts to, engages with and protects Londoners from harm.
MOPAC operates a Code of Governance which outlines how the organisation meets the good governance principles for public services:
- MOPAC aims to focus on its purpose and outcome to create and realise a vision for Londoners by implementing the Police and Crime Plan
- MOPAC aims to ensure officers, staff and volunteers work together to achieve a common purpose with clearly defined functions and roles
- MOPAC aims to promote its values and demonstrate the values of good governa nce through upholding high standards of conduct and behaviour
- MOPAC aims to take informed and transparent decisions that are subject to effective scrutiny and risk management arrangements
- MOPAC aims to engage with the MPS and stakeholders to ensure robust accountability
Auditing
The Directorate of Audit, Risk and Assurance (DARA) provides an internal audit service for the MOPAC and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). It provides an independent assurance function and has a crucial role in helping MOPAC and the MPS to demonstrate the highest standards of corporate governance, public accountability and transparency in the conduct of their business.
A joint independent Audit Panel is responsible for enhancing public trust and confidence in the governance of the MOPAC and the MPS. It advises the MOPAC and the MPS Commissioner according to good governance principles and oversees the work of DARA.
How is MOPAC held to account?
The London Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee examines the work of MOPAC and reviews the police and crime plan for London. The Committee has the power to require the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and staff from the MOPAC, to attend meetings and provide documents.
The Committee regularly questions the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime at public meetings.
