The Mayor’s Schools for Success programme identifies approximately 6% of London primary schools and secondary schools eligible for this programme. The selection of these schools is data driven, identifying schools exclusively based on the Department for Education’s performance tables for the previous academic year.

The programme’s focus is supporting low prior attaining pupils. To ensure we are recognising schools that have made significant progress with their low prior attainment cohort, we require every school to have at least 6 low prior attaining pupils in the relevant year group.

Schools have at least average London levels of attainment - 71% of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics (London Education Report 2020).

We require a school’s low prior attaining cohort to make positive progress in every subject.

As there is no existing measure for progress made across reading, writing and mathematics, we have taken the average across all three. Schools are then ranked based on this measure (for their low prior attaining pupil cohort) and the top 100 schools (which are either good or outstanding in Ofsted terms) are identified.

Schools will have at least average London levels of attainment - 49.7 Attainment 8 (Annual London Education Report 2020).

Schools are then ordered by their low prior attaining cohort’s progress 8 scores and the top 50 schools (which are either good or outstanding in Ofsted terms) are identified.
