Eastlea Community School

Eastlea Community School implemented a pedagogical approach to facilitate an easier primary to secondary transition.

Promoting Literacy Through Reciprocal Teaching

The project aimed to support the transition from primary to secondary school, so that pupils engage with new types of texts in secondary school in the context of a familiar pedagogy, by developing a consistent approach to Guided Reading and Writing in Years 5, 6 and 7.

Findings suggest the project has enhanced teachers’ subject knowledge by forming teaching and learning communities. These have allowed both specialist and non-specialist teachers of literacy to work together to research and develop a range of strategies with which to enhance literacy in across the curriculum.
