Members of the Board

The Board is Chaired by Claire Pritchard, who succeeded Rosie Boycott in March 2018, having been a member of the Board since 2005. Claire is also Chief Executive of Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency (GCDA), a position she has held for more than a decade. She brings nearly 30 years' experience of the food sector to these roles having set up and run restaurants, developed training courses to help businesses sell healthier food, managed urban food-growing projects, and set up and run markets, community food access projects and fruit-and-veg box schemes.

Claire has also worked extensively with local authorities and property developers all over London to make food better all across the capital.

Claire Pritchard is CEO of Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency, a social enterprise development agency focusing on supporting sustainable communities. Claire has almost 30 years’ experience in the food sector and is a Trustee of Borough Market.

Kemi Atijosan is Managing Director of Eagle Solutions Services Limited, a food consultancy company that specialises in supporting educational establishments. She has a background of successfully leading and managing diverse food services in the public, private and voluntary sectors for more than 30 years.

Sarah Williams is Programme Director at Sustain. She oversees a broad portfolio of food projects and programmes and is the Sustain lead for London. Sarah has extensive experience and knowledge of urban food growing – including leading Capital Growth – one of the world’s largest urban food growing networks.

Professor Tim Lang is Professor of Food Policy at City University London. He has researched widely in food policy, specialising in public and environmental health, trade and inequality. Tim set up the Centre for Food Policy in 1994, and was Director 1994-2016.

Angela Malik currently teaches an Indian Masterclass at Leith’s School of Food and Wine and has more than ten years’ experience of the UK food and hospitality industries. She has advised multi-national companies on their food strategy, is a regular panelist on BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet and will be appearing as a competitor on the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2017.

Jo Ralling currently works for the Food Foundation as Head of Communications. She previously worked at the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation as Campaign Director SUGAR SMART and has played a key role in the UK and global advocacy campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of sugar to long term health. She is a member of the Children’s Health Board and has over 20 years experience working across all areas of broadcast, digital and print media.

Laura Wellesley is a Research Associate for Food Security and Climate Change at Chatham House. For the past two years, she has been heading up Chatham House's work on sustainable and healthy diets, with a specific focus on meat consumption.

Dee Woods is currently Co-Founder and Coordinator of Granville Community Kitchen and was named BBC Food and Farming Awards Cook of the Year in 2016. Dee has worked in various roles as a community practitioner for the past 25 years. She has a background in community food education, health promotion, organic food growing and food research.

Melanie Smith has been Director of Public Health for the London Borough of Brent since 2013, where she is also responsible for culture. She sits on the Brent Health and Wellbeing Board and will be the London Councils representative on the London Food Board. London Councils represents all 32 London Boroughs and the City of London working on behalf of all its member organisations. Melanie is interested in the interplay between food and physical and mental wellbeing throughout the life course.

Stephanie is Chief Executive of School Food Matters.

James is Chief Executive of the Association of Convenience Stores.

Kate is Chief Executive of Hospitality UK.

George is an Agro-Ecological Farmer.

Taz is the Founder and Chief Executive of London's Community Kitchen. He was awarded an MBE in 2022.

Meeting aims and schedule

  • the Board meets a minimum of four times a year
  • members help us work towards a better food systems for all Londoners
  • members will advise on food policy and the GLA's own London Food Programme
  • members of the Board also participated in a series of workshops to help shape the London Food Strategy, published in December 2018
  • members are encouraged to share their insights and expertise and participate in open discussion with the Chair and the GLA Food Team.
