Supporting London's culture and creative industries is one of the Mayor's top priorities. Here's why:

Culture is what makes London, London:

We live in a city unrivalled anywhere in the world for the breadth and quality of its arts and culture.

This means hardwiring culture into London’s economic and social development, making it a 24 hour city, shouting about our creativity around the globe and making sure every Londoner has the chance to engage with and benefit from culture.

Culture enriches our lives:

Culture matters. It makes people healthier and happier, it can bring different communities together and so much more besides. Culture brings £58.4 billion to our economy every year, accounts for one in six jobs and is the reason 4 out of 5 tourists say they chose to visit London.

London is also home to thousands of cutting-edge creative businesses. Many are world leaders in their fields, from fashion to architecture, tech and film special effects. The creativity and innovation of London’s arts and culture sector plays a huge part in our city’s global appeal and success.

Culture for all:

London faces some serious challenges to stay a world city of culture for future generations. Only a third of Londoners feel they make the most of the culture on their doorstep.

London is home to world famous institutions like the British Museum, the Tate and the V&A, and the Mayor wants every Londoner to feel able to access our fantastic arts and culture. We want to work with those who share our vision to open our culture to more of London’s communities. It is this culture that makes London the best city on the planet. And it is for everyone.
