Fourth Plinth commissions

See the artists shortlisted for the next Fourth Plinth commission. Please check back on this page to hear more about the winning works later in this spring.

The question of who and what we celebrate in our public spaces is one which has captured the public’s imagination. The Fourth Plinth commissions have, for the past 25 years, reflected on London’s most famous public space, Trafalgar Square, through a contemporary lens.

The Fourth Plinth has become a powerful symbol for Londoners and visitors to our city. It signals London’s confidence as a global, creative city and brings out the art critic in everyone. We’ve shortlisted seven of the world’s most exciting international artists for the next artwork. The models represent each artist’s idea for the next Fourth Plinth commissions in 2026 and 2028.

You can learn more about the history of the Fourth Plinth, revisit previous commissions and explore the new shortlist on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and culture app.

See the models on display at the National Gallery from 19 February to 17 March 2024 in room one, or online below.
