Serious Youth Violence
Police and Crime Committee
The number of victims of serious youth violence has risen in London by over 20 per cent since 2012-13.
The Police and Crime Committee will publish a summary of its findings after hearing evidence from the Metropolitan Police, charity Redthread, Westminster City Council’s Integrated Gangs Unit and the Chair of the Restorative Justice Council Board of Trustees about reasons for the increase and other emerging trends.

Q&A with the Met and MOPAC
Police and Crime Committee – 10:00am in the Chamber
The Police and Crime Committee will hold a public Q&A session with the Met Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC). Questions will be raised on the potential introduction of spit hoods in custody suites by the Met and upcoming changes to local policing, including the commitment to provide each London ward with a second dedicated police constable.
The Committee will question:
- Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe QPM, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Metropolitan Police Service (MPS)
- Craig Mackey QPM, Deputy Commissioner, MPS
- Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, MOPAC
The Committee will also question guests on the following topics:
- Police pursuits and emergency response: road traffic accidents
- The Met’s misconduct and disciplinary procedures
- Violence against women and girls
