Equality and diversity

MOPAC's Equality and Diversity Statement of Commitment.

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is committed to providing services which embrace diversity and promote equality of opportunity.

MOPAC will not tolerate illegal discrimination on grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment [identity], marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex or sexual orientation.

MOPAC will hold the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service to account for the exercise of his duties relating to equality and diversity. We will ensure that the principles of equality are embedded into policing in order to maintain the trust and confidence of those who visit, work or live in London.

MOPAC will demonstrate its commitment by:

  1. Engaging with all of London’s communities in order to understand and respond to their different policing needs.
  2. Holding the Commissioner to account and challenging police performance.
  3. Ensuring that all services provided by MOPAC are accessible to all Londoners.
  4. Working with our partners in the GLA group and, more widely, with London councils, the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to provide practical solutions that tackle inequality.
  5. Seeking to influence the local, national and international equality and diversity agenda.

As an organisation MOPAC will also:

  1. Mainstream our approach to equality; integrating our equality principles into everything our organisation does.
  2. Conduct equality impact assessments as we develop and implement our strategies, plans, policies and programmes to identify benefits and mitigate any adverse impacts.
  3. Adopt an evidence based approach; seeking quantitative and qualitative evidence to support our work to tackle inequality and disadvantage.
  4. Aim to build a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
  5. Promote an environment free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and tackle any behaviour that breaches this.
  6. Provide support and encouragement to staff to develop their careers and increase their contribution to the organisation through the enhancement of their skills and abilities.

Every person working for the MOPAC has a personal responsibility for implementing and promoting these principles in their day-to-day dealings with the public, with each other and with our partners.

We look forward to working with all our colleagues and partners to deliver a fair, inclusive and accountable police service in London to the public.
