Motion detail

Len Duvall OBE AM proposed, and Leonie Cooper AM seconded, the following motion:

“This Assembly notes with significant concern the escalating situation in the Ukraine and condemns the invasion led by Vladimir Putin leading to death, destruction and displacement of millions.

This Assembly stands united with the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian Londoners and we stand shoulder to shoulder with the Mayor of Kyiv.

We recognise and thank the Mayor of London for meeting the Ukrainian ambassador and the Prime Minister for speaking with the President of Ukraine. We would also like to thank the many Londoners who have collected much needed supplies and made financial contributions for the people of Ukraine.

The Home Secretary has announced a new humanitarian sponsorship pathway and the Assembly urgently seeks further details of this scheme.

We call on the Mayor to make urgent representations to the Home Office to increase its offer of support for refugees without delay, which has so far been inadequate and leaves those fleeing Ukraine at serious risk.”

Following debate and upon being put to the vote, the motion was agreed unanimously.
