Motion detail
Neil Garratt AM moved, and Emma Best AM seconded the following motion:
“This Assembly opposes the introduction of London-wide, pay per mile road user charging in the next Mayoral term and urges the Mayor to instruct TfL to pause preparatory work in this area, beyond what has been requested by the current Government.
The Assembly notes that the current Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has said “As long as I am Mayor, we are not going to have pay-per-mile.”
The Assembly notes that, in December 2023, TfL’s Director of Transport Strategy and Planning informed the London Assembly GLA Oversight Committee that: “There is no work going on now on pay-per-mile charging or distance-based charging.”
The Assembly further notes the investigation into Road User Charging conducted by the London Assembly Transport Committee, which included meetings in December 2022 and February 2023, as well as a call for evidence that received over 3,300 responses.
This Assembly looks forward to the imminent publication of the final report of the committee which outlines how any future Mayor, or Government, should seek to approach this issue in the coming years.”
Following debate and upon being put to the vote, the motion was agreed unanimously.
