Motion detail

Léonie Cooper AM moved, and Unmesh Desai AM seconded the following motion:

“This Assembly stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and condemns the recent homophobic attacks in London such as the incident at the Two Brewers in Clapham and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

It is clear that more must be done to keep LGBTQ+ Londoners safe.

We call on the Mayor to continue to do all he can and urgently review what further action can be taken to tackle homophobic, biphobic and transphobic hate crime in the capital and demonstrate to the Assembly what measurable impact current actions have achieved.

This Assembly calls on the Mayor to:

  • Evaluate the contributions of the LGBT Adviser and Panel and LGBT Action Plan in Greater Manchester to assess whether this model would work in London.
  • Review his 2018 Inclusive London Strategy and reflect on the successes and improvements required from this strategy with an updated strategy and report published.
  • Urgently convene an LGBTQ+ Night time Safety summit, listening to stakeholders, partners, charities and LGBTQ+ night time venue owners from across London.
  • Revisit the recommendations of the 2019 PCC Hate Crime Report and report back to the Assembly on both the status and progress on these recommendations.”

Following debate and upon being put to a vote, the motion was agreed unanimously.
