Conversion Therapy Ban Motion

Key information

Date: Thursday 09th June 2022

Time: 10:00am

Motion detail

Caroline Russell AM proposed, and Emma Best AM seconded the following motion:

“This Assembly notes that in the Government's 2017 National LGBT survey, 15% of trans Londoners said they had been offered or had experienced conversion therapy.

This Assembly notes that conversion therapy is an abusive practice, that everyone should be protected from, and believes that legislation to prevent it should not exclude trans people.

This Assembly calls on the Chair of the Assembly to write to the relevant ministers, making the principle that everyone should be protected from conversion therapy clear.”

Following debate and upon being put to the vote, the motion in the name of Caroline Russell AM was agreed unanimously.
