Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis

Key information

Date: Thursday 10th February 2022

Time: 10:00am

Motion detail

Tony Devenish AM proposed, and Nicholas Rogers AM seconded, the following motion:

"This Assembly notes the Mayor of London’s announcement that Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Dame Cressida Dick DBE QPM has been “put on notice” after the appalling Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) report of 1st February 2022.

The IOPC report shows that what used to be referred to as “the Met’s Canteen Culture“ still seems to be operating in some parts of the Met. This culture hasn’t been tackled effectively after 6 years (in May 2022) of the Mayor’s term of office.

This Assembly calls upon the Mayor to:

  • Explain clearly to Londoners and this Assembly exactly what “on notice“ means;
  • Urgently publish a plan of action to tackle these failings; and
  • Instruct the MPS to work on an anonymous whistleblower policy that protects police officers and staff who come forward with serious concerns."

Following debate and upon being put to the vote the motion was agreed unanimously.
