People's Question Time is a free event for Londoners. It's an opportunity to put your questions to the Mayor of London and the London Assembly about your city.

The next PQT will take place online on Thursday 12 November 2020 from 7-9pm. The event will go live from 6:45pm.

Owing to the current COVID-19 pandemic, current government guidelines do not allow us to organise an event with large gatherings of people. Having the event online enables viewers to participate remotely and safely.

A small panel, based at City Hall, will include the Mayor of London, London Assembly Member party leaders and the event Chair, Navin Shah, who is Chair of the London Assembly and Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow.

Remaining Assembly Members will be joining remotely along with Londoners from our Talk London platform who will be asking questions live via video.

The London Assembly holds the Mayor to account and conducts investigations on behalf of Londoners. Assembly Members will also be answering questions on the night.

You can ask about anything that falls under the Mayor's control.

You can find out more about the Mayor's responsibilities. There will be 5 core topics up for discussion on the night - transport, safety, air quality and the environment, housing and growing London’s economy. Questions that fall outside of these core areas can be asked in the final open section.

If you want to ask a question, please read our Moderation Criteria.

There are two ways you can submit your question for consideration. The event chair will try to get through as many questions as possible in the time available.

Join the pre-PQT community discussion on Talk London our online community, where you can take part in discussions in the lead up to the event and pose questions. If your question is chosen, you could ask it directly to the Mayor and the London Assembly via video link on the night. This discussion group closes at midnight on Sunday 1 November.

Register for the event using the form above and you can ask questions on the night. You'll receive a link to watch the live event and you can type your question in the live chat. Keep your question short, to the point and on topic. If you would like to ask a question, please read our Moderation Criteria.

Know someone who doesn’t have digital access, but wants to know about PQT? Please ask them to call our access line on 020 7983 4762.

If your question doesn’t get asked on the night, you can contact the Mayor after the event. We aim to respond within 20 working days.

We expect around 6 questions to be asked and answered in each of the 5 main topic sections, but this may be more or less depending on time constraints.

The questions are submitted as follows:

Talk London: Questions will be pre-selected through the Talk London PQT discussion forum taking place throughout October, with Londoners asking their question directly via video link on the night. Advance selection, to allow for video submission, will be done at random following a shortlisting process. Shortlisting is to ensure popular question themes are included alongside a broad range of questions from a diverse representation of Londoners. Any Londoner can join Talk London and take part in this pre-PQT discussion.

Live Questions: You can register for the event using the form above to be able to ask questions live, on the night. Viewers can ‘like’ their favourite questions, with the most popular being shortlisted to the PQT Chair, and who will select as many as possible in the allocated time.

The Chair will direct each question to the Mayor and/or Assembly Members for a response. Neither the Mayor nor Assembly Members will have access to the questions in advance.

Owing to online safeguarding issues you must be 16 or over to take part.

There are 5 topics being discussed on the night including transport, safety, air quality and the environment, housing, growing London’s economy. There will be a final section where any other questions within the Mayor’s remit can be asked – for example culture.

Yes. There will be a BSL interpreter on screen (PIP - picture in picture) and subtitles on the screen via a palantypist throughout the event. A full transcript of the event will be available on request.

As an online event, you will need to have digital access. If you know someone who is unable to get online but wants to engage in the event, please ask them to call 020 7983 4762. Lines will be open until 12 noon on Wednesday 11 November.

To be able to ask questions live on the night you must register using the form above.

Once you have registered, you will automatically receive a link to the event, which allows you to participate by asking questions in the chat function live on the night. The link will be live from 6.45pm for a 7pm start.

The event will also be live-streamed on this page.

Yes, you do not need to register, the event will be live-streamed on this page.

As we want to get through as many questions as possible, from as many people as possible, could you:

  • Ask only one question
  • Stay on topic i.e. transport, environment
  • Keep questions concise and to the point

On the night: We want to ensure that Londoners get to ask their questions to the PQT panel, but we will not subject them, or viewers of the event, to abuse. Questions will, therefore, be moderated before they are posted to the live chat, and those that contain swearing, defamatory or illegal remarks or engage in ‘trolling’ will not be posted.

Questions that are off-topic, during a specific topic session, will also be discarded. Unfortunately, due to the large number of questions we anticipate, we will not be able to go back to questions submitted in the wrong topic section.

Depending on the scale of questions submitted on the night, we may not be able to post all questions into the live chat within the time constraints.

Talk London: If you are joining Talk London, our online community, and taking part in the pre-PQT discussion, or submitting a question via Talk London, please read their community guidelines.

Talk London operates a reactive moderation process; anything that you publish to the community will appear almost straight away. We rely on you, our community members, to alert us of any content or behaviour that is inappropriate.
