For the first time since her publication of the shocking formal sponsorship agreement between London Mayor Sadiq Khan and United Airlines, Caroline Russell AM questioned the Mayor directly over the integrity of the partnership.
Pointing to the extended months-long delay in the Mayor’s response to the Oversight Committee’s initial inquiry, Caroline pushed the Mayor to confirm whether the agreement with United Airlines was one in a series of corporate partnerships.
Following the exchange, Green Party London Assembly and Oversight Committee Member Caroline Russell said:
“Public servants must hold ourselves to a high standard of integrity – the Mayor’s initial failure to declare his partnership with United Airlines falls well below that standard.
“From the months-long delay in responding to our enquiries, to the initial denials from his office that any such partnership existed, the question must be asked as to whether the Mayor has engaged in similar transactions with other corporate sponsors.
“I am relieved that, according to the Mayor’s statements today, this was a one-off error in judgement, but plan to remain vigilant in my scrutiny of any other kind of corporate promotion from his office.”

Pointing out the particularly egregious choice to engage in such a sponsorship with a major global polluter, Green Party London Assembly Member Zack Polanski also questioned the Mayor over the full extent of his relationship with United Airlines.
