Let’s Do London was created to bring Londoners and visitors from across the UK safely back to central London to enjoy our world-class culture, nightlife, retail and hospitality. Led by the Mayor of London, the aim was to kick-start our economy and support jobs.

What is it?

The Mayor’s Let’s Do London campaign was launched in May 2021 to champion the capital’s businesses, cultural institutions and attractions. Through a curated programme of over 500 seasonal events and cultural activities which supported more than 1735 organisations and creative freelancers, it has contributed around £81m into the economy, attracting 330,000 additional visitors and supporting over 700 businesses.

Let's Do London included:

  • A Family Fun programme, marking the start of the school summer holidays, that included an unprecedented range of family-friendly activities with everything from go-karting, freestyle dance sessions, outdoor art exhibitions, nature and heritage trails, theatrical storytelling, top-class musicians, poets and dancers.

  • A season of London Lates which saw the capital’s world-class museums, galleries, cultural venues and attractions opening late for visitors.

  • A collaboration with BFI, BAFTA and Film London to promote cinemas and outdoor screenings – including six at Trafalgar Square – to encourage filmgoers to take advantage of the capital’s world class food and hospitality.

  • The unveiling of a series of eye-catching street art commissions in central London in support of London’s creative, retail and hospitality sectors.

  • Pop Up London; a free culture festival of family-friendly performances celebrating some of London’s most creative grassroots talents.

  • Work to support and promote London’s key creative sectors such as fashion, design and theatre.

  • A Winter Lights’ season, which brought together a host of festive outdoor events capturing the magic of winter through a series of light displays

  • And finally, Spring Into London in early 2022, which saw free outdoor art, performances and immersive light installations by globally renowned artists along with discounted theatre tickets and meal deals right across the city

Why this campaign?

London’s culture and creative industries represent a significant part of the capital’s economy and have been heavily impacted by the pandemic.

Live performance venues, museums and galleries experienced huge drops in footfall, theatre shows were cancelled or postponed and self-employed creatives experienced immense job instability.

One in seven jobs in London is in tourism and hospitality. If you add retail, it’s one in five. Re-establishing London as a safe global creative hub is vital for our future success, welfare and prosperity.

What next?

The Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has invested £10m to attract more domestic and international tourists back to London in 2022. London & Partners is working with the London Tourism Recovery Board and the city's wider tourism industry to delivery a recovery campaign to support the reopening of London to international audiences - please visit their website for more info.
