About the role

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities.

Tackling Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG) 

At the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, we are leading on delivering the Mayor’s ambitious Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy for London, backed with record levels of investment in services to prevent violence against women and girls and support victims and survivors.  

The Mayor’s mission is clear: to make London a city in which women and girls are safer – and feel safer. At MOPAC, we are uniquely placed to bring a wide range of people and organisations together to achieve those goals. As a part of the Mayor’s Tackling VAWG team, you will work closely with communities and partners across London including the GLA, the Metropolitan Police, the criminal justice system, specialist VAWG support services, TfL, local authorities, the NHS, businesses, schools and universities. The work you do will make a real difference, seen and felt by women and girls across the city. 

The Role 

We are offering one full-time permanent position and one 0.6 permanent position. Please indicate in your application whether you wish to be considered for both positions or if you prefer one contract type only.

You will be responsible for developing policy, commissioning services, and building and maintaining effective relationships with partners, to deliver our VAWG priorities, actively supporting the delivery of the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan (PCP) for London, the Mayor’s VAWG Strategy and the Mayor’s Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Strategy. 

Leading on specific projects and programmes, you will work together with teams across the directorate and the wider organisation, other civil society organisations, the VAWG sector, communities and other partners across London. 

With a relentless focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, you will collaboratively design commissioned services that impact on the outcomes for Londoners in our strategies, ensuring the disproportionate impact and specific needs of minoritised communities are addressed. 

We are looking for someone who:  

  • Has an understanding or interest in issues affecting victims-survivors who have experienced of VAWG 

  • Has experience of policy development and evidence-based commissioning 

  • Has experience of developing and implementing projects at pace, working flexibly to meet MOPAC priorities 

  • Has the ability to build relationships and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the MPS, to deliver programme objectives and problem solve within complex systems and relationships  

  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.

Political Restriction 

Political Restriction: under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011), all MOPAC staff members will be politically restricted without the right to apply for an exemption. 

Security Vetting Clearance 

The successful candidates will be expected to undergo the necessary security vetting, which may take around eight weeks to complete. Applicants must possess the legal right to work in the UK and have resided in the UK continuously for at least the last three years.

Where are we based? 

We have moved to a hybrid working model with office hubs at Union Street (near London Bridge) and Newlands Park (postcode SE26). On average, staff will work 1-2 days a week from an Office Hub, which may differ depending on the role requirements.
