The London Story

London is a highly successful economy and likely to remain so. Global trends have resulted in a polarised job market with the greatest growth at the higher skill levels but London’s businesses do not face major skills gaps due to high levels of inward migration and commuting.

London’s challenge is therefore to equip more Londoners to compete successfully for jobs alongside workers from across the UK and around the world and to tackle worklessness which is a bigger problem in London than the rest of the UK partly because of stiff competition. Public provision of skills and employment services needs to be better integrated and targeted.
