Waltham Forest is the first borough to be awarded the London Borough of Culture title for 2019, followed by Brent for 2020.
Both boroughs were awarded £1.35 million of funding to deliver a programme of ambitious cultural activities celebrating the unique character of local people and places.
In addition, six boroughs – Barking & Dagenham, Camden, Kingston, Lambeth, Lewisham and Merton – have received Cultural Impact Awards.

Our current funding programme is Culture Seeds, a two-year rolling programme for funding between £1,000-£5,000 to support not-for-profit, small or informal organisations and groups.
We do not issue grant funding outside of core cultural projects that relate to the Mayor’s cultural priorities.

The Fourth Plinth sculptures are chosen by the Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group. The shortlisting process takes a number of years and six maquettes are made for public display, two of which are selected to be the final commissions.
The current sculpture is The Invisible Enemy Should Not Exist' by Michael Rakowitz. It is the twelfth piece of work to appear on the Fourth Plinth and will be there until March 2020.
Artists have been part of London’s story for hundreds of years and have made it the thriving, creative, diverse city it is today. As part of the Mayor's Cultural Infrastructure Plan, research has been undertaken to understand how workspace provision for London’s artists has changed.
