New research by the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee has revealed that domestic abuse offences in December have risen by a third over the past 10 years.

In December 2010, 1,554 domestic abuse incidents with injury were recorded in London compared to 2,031 in December 2019. While domestic abuse cases have been rising year on year since 2010, there is also a worrying trend that cases are annually higher in December when compared to November and January.

The Police and Crime Committee has written to the Met Police to ensure that the force has a plan in place to deal with the possible rise in domestic abuse offences throughout December, particularly around the Christmas period.
