The London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning (FREP) Committee has responded to the Home Office’s consultation on a package of proposals for the reform of fire and rescue services in England.
The Government has announced new reforms for fire safety with recommendations from the Grenfell Inquiry being put into law, as well as launching a consultation to introduce “system-wide reform” to strengthen the fire and rescue services in England.
The FREP Committee reviews the priorities and objectives of the London Fire Commissioner (LFC) and scrutinises how the London Fire Brigade exercises its functions. It has responded to the consultation with the Committee’s views on the White Paper set out under the three key areas: people, professionalism and governance.
The Committee hopes that the points raised in this letter will help inform ongoing efforts to reform and professionalise fire and rescue, including fire safety, across England.
