Dear London MPs,

I am writing as a Green Party London Assembly Member, and on behalf of my colleagues Sian Berry AM and Zack Polanski AM. We are each elected to hold the Mayor to account and to be the voice of Londoners.

We have witnessed the atrocities being committed in the Middle East and the loss of innocent life. We stand with our party in calling for an immediate bilateral ceasefire and the release of hostages.

We are hearing from many concerned residents – some directly affected, others observers – but all horrified at our Government’s complicity in looking away.

Every day the fighting continues is another day where people lose their lives. Of course the Government calling for an immediate ceasefire is not sufficient action for peace, but it is a necessary step in building international solidarity and pressure.

We remain committed in our role to support the many people here who have friends and family connections to both Israel and Gaza, and to support both Jewish and Muslim communities in our city, among whom many have expressed deep fear in very troubling times, amidst rising antisemitism and islamophobia.

We ask you to look beyond party lines or positions and carry out your role in voting for peace by supporting the original SNP motion tomorrow.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline Russell
