New nature trail boosts access to green space

A new nature trail linking Wembley Stadium to Burnt Oak gives Brent residents access to the Welsh Harp open space. It is one of a network of four new walks taking in local landmark across the capital to encourage Londoners to explore their surroundings. Local London Assembly Member Krupesh Hirani is urging residents to make use of the trail that highlights local beauty spots and areas of interest in the borough.

The six-mile-long trail provides a walking route through some of Brent’s most beautiful spots, particularly Welsh Harp, which is home to a number of bird species to be spotted along the way. The walk offers access to activities for children and families, including sailing and canoeing.

The trail begins at Burnt Oak station in nearby Barnet. It takes walkers along the banks of the River Brent, ending at Wembley Stadium, where anyone who finishes the two-hour walk can stop and enjoy local shops and restaurants.

There are four new trails encompassing local landmarks in North, South, East and Central London, all designed to make walking more attractive in built up areas.

Local London Assembly Member Krupesh Hirani said

“This local nature trail is a real asset to the community. It’s a great way to encourage more people to go for a walk in our green spaces and get involved in activities available locally.

“Green space is vital to physical and mental health and wellbeing, so it’s wonderful to see these spaces being made more accessible to everyone.

“Having walked the trail myself I really enjoyed the journey down the river managed to spot some water birds along the way.”
