About the challenge

21 members of the OPDC team have signed up for the Virgin Pulse 100-day Global Challenge with three teams, named:

  • OPDC Hot Steppers
  • OPDC Movers and Shakers
  • OPDC’s Calorie Crunch Club

And we're off

The Global Challenge is, as the name suggests, a worldwide challenge, sponsored by Virgin Pulse, for employees of organisations to get together in teams to improve their health and wellbeing in various ways. Throughout the 100 days, participants are encouraged to get more exercise, eat a more balanced diet, be mindful and, finally, get more sleep.

There was huge enthusiasm within the organisation to take part in this global challenge and on the day that the trackers arrived in the office there was excitement!

The official start date was Wednesday 23 May and we are now 45 days into it and are still geared up to set high standards within our teams. Step counts are still being eagerly compared and a healthy competition has evolved throughout the teams. Personal Bests are recorded and shared with the teams, motivating us to continuously try to improve on our colleagues’ performance. As we log our steps, The Challenge moves us electronically through various locations, starting off in South America we will gradually ‘travel’ across the globe as the 100 days progress.

We are now over 40 days in and have settled into something of a rhythm, finding out who amongst us is of a more competitive nature and who is happier to go with the flow! Team Captains are of course sending out ‘encouraging’ emails to their teams to try to coax some of the more relaxed members into action and it is safe to say the fun rivalry between the teams is set to grow as the Challenge progresses.

The Challenge also helped encourage eight staff to take part in the Great Team Relay at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

May the most active team win!
