Following feedback from the local community at the second Community Forum in November 2017, the Community Forum in March 2018, focussed on skills, apprenticeships and job opportunities for local people.
On what turned out to be a rare sunny March afternoon, over 50 people gathered at The Collective to find out about the skills and jobs opportunities in the Old Oak and Park Royal area.
Skills, apprenticeships and job opportunities for local people
We joined forces with local partners: HS2, Genesis, QPR and SEGRO as we’d been asked by the local community to provide a platform to find out more about what skills and job opportunities are in, or will be coming to, the area.
Genesis and QPR
Genesis and QPR are building a joint venture of 605 units on the Oaklands site, just off Old Oak Common Lane.
The opportunities to work on the Oaklands scheme include: work experience, local labour, apprenticeships and supply chain opportunities.
Find out more information about the jobs and training opportunities.
SEGRO
SEGRO is one of the largest landowners in the Park Royal industrial area. On the evening their ambition to be a good local employer was clear, as well as the career opportunities available within the organisation.
HS2
HS2 will be investing a significant amount in to the Old Oak and Park Royal area as part of this national infrastructure programme. This investment in infrastructure will create thousands of jobs and opportunities for Apprenticeships, skills building, education programmes and careers.
Due to the comprehensive nature of the project, HS2 will be advertising the roles and job opportunities across a number of different providers and platforms:
Local boroughs
Employment agencies
Direct via our contractors
Charities
Great Place Scheme
Following the theme of skills and learning, we also had a spotlight session on the Great Place Scheme, a three-year project funded by Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
This ambitious and community-focused project will involve recruiting and training a pool of 2,000 local volunteers. It also provides a platform for local residents, businesses, artists and students to get involved with their community through a range of participatory arts and culture activities, including Open House.
Park Royal
Park Royal is London’s largest industrial area and employs more than 43,000 people through over 2,000 businesses. It generates £2.1 billion GVA per annum.
This area is a key industrial land for London and is a significant contributor to London’s economy. We’re proud to have this area within our boundary and have created a plan to:
- Protect
- Strengthen
- Intensify
A key part of these three strands is employment and skills and we’re currently working on a skills and employment strategy to help ensure that the local community are trained and ready to apply for the many jobs that already exist in the area, but also the jobs that will come as a result of the HS2 and Elizabeth Line superhub station.
Partners
Thank you to our partners: HS2, Genesis, QPR and SEGRO.
