SafeStats redevelopment
SafeStats has been in existence for ten years and in this time little change has been made to the user experience or infrastructure behind the scenes. Whilst this has not affected the security of data or the functionality of the secure website, the development of new technologies, processes, software and methodologies have meant that elements of the initial project were not fit for purpose.
An opportunity arose that enabled a wholesale revamp of the system from 2018/19-2019/20, to create a more stable, transparent and future-looking system with user need and efficiency at its core.
This has involved the following stages:
DISCOVERY: Apr-Jul18
• User consultation (wide & focussed)
• Back-end cloud architecture/Front-end application research & proposal
• Data pipeline draft
BACK-END BUILD / MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT (MVP) STRATEGY: Aug-Dec18
• In-house back-end build & test
• Wholesale Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) code re-write & testing
• MVP strategy (user group)
• Procurement strategy
• Developer recruitment
MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT BUILD: Jan-Jun19
• MVP development (agile)
• Iterative in-house Alpha/UAT testing
• Closed Beta testing with dev group
RELEASE & PHASE 2 PLANNING: Jun-Nov19
• Bug fixing
• Penetration & performance testing
• Data Governance
• Open Beta release
• Future funding
• Phase 2 Specifications (Second consultation) & procurement
PHASE 2 BUILD: Jan-Mar 20
• MVP development
• Iterative in-house Alpha testing
• Closed Beta testing with dev group
• Bug fixing
• Open Beta release
