What we do
The Mayor’s Planning team’s job is to plan London’s future, shaping good growth. A City that is planned well can improve as it grows. Good growth is socially and economically inclusive and environmentally sustainable.
The London Plan good growth objectives shape all decisions we make:

Planning Support
This team provides support to all of the planners and urban designers in the GLA Planning team. They administer pre-application requests, planning application referrals from London Boroughs and manage the planning meetings and hearings attended by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Development Management
All referable applications are reviewed and processed on by our development management team. Our officers in this team also provide pre-application advice and advise the Mayor and Deputy Mayor on development control matters.
Our development management team includes a viability team whose responsibility is to assess affordable housing proposed within schemes and viability.

London Plan
Our Policy team produce the London Plan and all supporting documentation including Supplementary Planning Guidance, London Plan Guidance, Opportunity Area Planning Frameworks and technical guides and tools which support our Development Control team. They also provide responses to the boroughs about whether their plans are in “general conformity” with the London Plan.
Our London Plan team incorporates a team of urban designers who work on Opportunity Area Planning Frameworks and provide design advice as part of the development management process.

Change and Delivery
Our Delivery team is driving projects to meet Mayoral priorities through:
- Providing support to the other service areas including consultation, data, digital, communications and technical.
- Compiling and managing planning related data for London and.
- Leading on digital planning.
We have a Planning Change Communications Officer who can assist with events, social media or related queries.
