The NHS is one of London’s most diverse employers. At the same time, sector leaders recognise that more can be done to address the underrepresentation and discrimination some groups face in certain NHS careers due to their ethnicity, disability, gender, religion and/or socio-economic status.
Together with senior leaders in UK healthcare, this toolkit has been developed to equip healthcare organisations of varying sizes and at varying stages of their equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) journey with actions to amplify current EDI interventions and implement emerging best practice.
The actions in this toolkit are designed to work alongside existing EDI practices including the NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard and the NHS Workforce Disability Standard. This toolkit also complements the NHS London Workforce Race Strategy - a set of 15 recommendations for furthering race equality - as well as the NHS London People Board, which aims to make the NHS in London a better and more equal place to work.
The actions and resources provided are tailored to different types of health organisations and stakeholders. The actions set out aim to support general practices and primary care networks, NHS trusts and integrated care boards to help them further develop EDI approaches and best practice.
