In developing the London Plan - the Mayor's Spatial Development Strategy - the projected growth of London's population is an important factor. This interim report looks London's past population growth, estimates future growth and establishes the priorities for managing this growth.
The population has been growing rapidly in the last decade, with 600,000 more people moving in to London since 1989 - roughly equivalent to a city the size of Sheffield. It shows no sign of slowing, creating policy challenges in all areas from transport and the economy to housing and the environment.
