An analysis of the energy assessments relating to all stage II planning applications determined from 1 January to 31 December 2012 has been undertaken to establish the projected CO2 savings and infrastructure commitments that have been secured.
Significant energy related commitments secured in 2012 include:
- Equivalent of circa £32m investment secured through energy efficiency measures alone.
- Substantial investment in district heating infrastructure and associated energy supply plant including:
- Circa £20 million of investment in new CHP plant able to produce 29MW of electricity and heat.
- Circa £133 million of investment in communal heat network infrastructure for ~ 53,000 dwellings
- Circa 55 permanent jobs created in maintaining heat network infrastructure and associated energy supply plant. Additional jobs will also be created in the supply chain.
- Approximately £16 million to provide circa 87,000m2 of photovoltaic solar panels. Circa £1.3million per annum of combined feed-in-tariff (FiT) revenue and electricity savings is envisaged to result from this investment
- Additionally 36 per cent (60,000 tonnes) CO2 emission reductions beyond 2010 Building Regulations -greater than the 25 per cent London Plan target - equivalent to retrofitting loft insulation in circa 150,000 existing homes.
