London Is Open for Summer Sir Quentin Blake
Created on
08 August 2017

From Friday, commuters on the Tube will be greeted with a new image from world-renowned illustrator Sir Quentin Blake, spreading the message that London is open for summer.

You'll see it at 240 London Underground stations as it encapsulates Sir Quentin Blake’s view of the vibrancy and open spirit of London, encouraging children and families to enjoy all the capital has to offer over summer.

It is the latest message from the Mayor's 'London is Open' campaign launched to reassure visitors to the city that the capital remains open to all with a diverse range of events, sights and shows for everyone to enjoy.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said: “London is one of the most diverse, thrilling and fascinating cities in the world and it captures the imagination of everyone, young and old. Sir Quentin Blake’s wonderful illustration brings this spirit to life and shows that London is open to all.

Sir Quentin Blake said: “I did a drawing last year for the 'London is Open' evening at the Science Museum, so when I heard that there was an invitation for artists to put forward proposals to publicise the same idea this year, I put everything else aside and did it immediately.”

Meanwhile, a number of stars have given their support to the London is Open for Summer campaign. The new 60-second film also features young people from the Stagecoach Performing Arts School enjoying a day out at popular London landmarks including The Shard, the Coca-Cola London Eye and the Natural History Museum.
