Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced new plans to boost digital connectivity in London - improving it in areas lacking in London, bringing it the London Underground and helping local authorities to provide it with the best digital infrastructure.
Our city is known around the world as a leading technology hub. It has 40,000 digital tech businesses including thriving start-ups and global giants like Facebook, Amazon and Google.
Yet Londoners are still experiencing poor connectivity at home, at work and on the move. Slow and unreliable broadband, even in the heart of the city, is still causing serious concern and frustration.
So the Mayor has announced his plans to get London better connected.
What's in the works
Mobile connectivity to London Underground tunnels - The Mayor wants 4G coverage to provided on underground tunnels from 2019. Transport for London's new Elizabeth Line, launching in December 2018, will pave the way with mobile coverage and internet access throughout your journey.
A 'Not spot team' - who will be dedicated to areas in London with the poorest connectivity and work with local authorities to spot and resolve these issues, so that residents and businesses can enjoy better broadband and mobile connections.
The Digital Connectivity Funding Forum - a summit at City Hall that will help London's local authorities successfully apply for the Government's Digital Infrastructure funding.
The Mayor is writing to all of London's local authorities to encourage them to apply for this funding and providing guidance so they have a clear connection to get started.
