As Mayor, I’ve been clear I want to see the biggest and best sporting events in the world taking place right here in London.

That’s why I was determined to pull out all the stops to help ensure a record crowd of 90,000 could watch the heavyweight boxing clash between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley on Saturday night.

It’s also why I’m working hard to stage more NFL games here in our city and bring Major League Baseball to London’s world class sports venues.

Since 2012, major sporting events have contributed an estimated £1.6 billion to our capital’s economy and this year there is so much to look forward to.

From the 2017 IPC World ParaAthletics Championships and the IAAF World Championships, to the Women’s Cricket World Cup Final and the ICC Champions Trophy, my message to sports stars and fans around the globe in 2017 is that #LondonIsOpen.
