London Climate Action Week kicks off this weekend with over 200 events geared towards tackling the climate emergency.

The Mayor, Deputy Mayor Shirley Rodrigues and the City Hall Environment Team are involved in events throughout the week. Don’t miss the Business Climate Summit that we’re hosting with CBI and featuring businesses leading on climate action. This blog is a quick guide of where to find us and when.

Three years ago, we held London’s first ever Climate Action Week with the think tank E3G. Since then, E3G have continued to build on its success, despite the challenges of the pandemic, delivering thousands of online events with climate experts and talent from around the world.

The week of events showcases London as a global hub for climate action and creates an important platform for participants to come together and find new solutions. Later this year, the focus of the world will be on Glasgow for COP26. But here in London, organisations and citizens continue to be at the forefront of climate issues, and events like this have never been more important as we build towards a green recovery from the pandemic.

Yesterday it was announced that the first ever Earthshot prize awards will be hosted in London in October. Look out for announcements in the run up to COP26 that further put London on the map for its climate leadership.

Here are a few select London Climate Action Week events we’re involved in:

29 June – Schools Climate Summit

This brings together London’s schools as a major force for climate action. The event will be opened by Deputy Mayor Shirley Rodrigues and will feature case studies from GLA programmes that help schools greener and tackle overheating and air pollution.

29 June – Countdown to Net-Zero Conference

Centre for London are hosting an event with policymakers, business leaders, economists, academics and campaigners to determine how London can reach its target of becoming net zero by 2030.

30 June - Climate Innovation Forum Event - ‘Cities in Action’

The week’s largest event brings together policy makes to explore how we can build back better, support green jobs, and accelerate the path to net zero. Speakers include Shirley Rodrigues, COP26’s Mark Carney, WHO’s Dr Maria Neira and US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.

30 June - London Climate Business Summit

Co-hosted by Sadiq and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), this event looks at how businesses and government must work together for a green recovery and a zero-carbon London. Look out for case studies from our London Business Climate Leaders programme.

The London Sustainable Development Commission will be taking part in three events across the week highlighting their Women in Cleantech initiative:

28 June - Supporting the next generation of female climate pioneers

29 June - Female cleantech founder showcase event

30 June - Aspiring Angel Investor event - support women tackling climate change
