How can we ensure better health for all Londoners?

Have your say on the Draft Health Inequalities Strategy
Created on
23 August 2017

As the stark differences in Londoners' health are revealed, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has published, 'Better Health for All Londoners' - a strategy to tackle health inequalites and improve health for everyone in the capital.

Now we're inviting Londoners and organisations to learn more and have their say on this vision. Have your say here.

What's the problem?

'Inequalities' or unfair differences in a person's health can be affected by: where they live, what they do for a living, their income or their childhood background.

These are just some of the facts we've discovered about health inequality in London:

  • The rate of early deaths from preventable causes is twice as high in Tower Hamlets as it is in the City of London
  • Women in 30 of the 32 London boroughs are living in ill health for an average of 19.9 years, compared to 16.1 years for men - find out more from our latest map
  • 10 per cent of London’s households are affected by fuel poverty

What's the plan?

Better Health for All Londoners has 5 major goals:

  1. Every London child to have the best possible start in life
  2. All Londoners share in a city with the best mental health in the world
  3. A society, environment and economy that promotes good mental and physical health
  4. London’s diverse communities to be healthy and thriving
  5. To make the ‘healthy choice’ the easy choice for all Londoners

Not only are we doing everything in our power to acheive these goals, the Mayor is building partnerships with organisations across London to encourage them to implement these measures.
