Celebrating London's volunteering stars

Team London awards 2017
Created on
22 November 2017

London’s volunteering stars were rewarded for their hard work at the Team London Awards on Monday 6 November 2017.

Now in their sixth year, these awards congratulate Londoners who are active citizens in their communities, making London a better place to be and improving the lives of those around them.

The event was an enormous success! The evening started with some heartfelt thanks from Assistant Director of Team London Laura Brown, Deputy Mayor Joanne McCartney and Director of London Funders James Banks, followed by some great entertainment from GIGS winners Roadstead. Trophies were then presented by some special guests, including long time Team London friend and supporter Dame Barbara Windsor, Christopher Biggins and designer Wayne Hemingway MBE.

The nine categories this year included Environment & Healthy Living, Community Action, Business, Crowdfunding, Culture in London, Volunteer Centre, Uniformed and Sport. A number of schools also won awards for their contributions - their pupils got involved in their local community by educating on gang violence or campaigning for mental health. Long Service Awards were also given out to four wonderfully dedicated people who have between them given over 165 years’ service!

There was a huge buzz in the auditorium, with nominees and winners alike excited to be there (and in a few instances to see their idol Babs!). Nominated by their peers, they came from all backgrounds, charities and age groups, but with one thing in common - they give their time and energy tirelessly and selflessly.

They are truly inspiring. And here at Team London we were happy to be able to recognise their hard work with the Team London Awards.
